How much does it cost to join ISMP?
Nothing. ISMP is a nonprofit run by unpaid volunteers, and there is no fee to join. For some workshops and events we may ask you to help cover the cost of the food or the room, and we always say so beforehand.
Who are the mentors?
Working professionals who finished the degrees you are studying for now, and who volunteer their time. None of them are paid for this. A few were international students themselves.
How do I sign up?
Apply online. After you apply, we'll email you to arrange a time and ask a few questions about what you need. Then you meet your mentor.
How frequently do we meet?
You and your mentor decide. Many meet about once a week for an hour, in person or online, but you can meet more often or less often, and you can change it as the semester goes on.
How long is the program?
We recommend at least a semester (about 4–5 months), but it's up to you. Stay as long as it's helping.
Will we meet online or in person?
Either. We do our best to pair you with a mentor in your region or field so in-person is possible, but online works too.
How will I get matched with a mentor?
We match by region and field of study where we can, so your mentor understands your world.
What kind of curriculum is offered?
There's no fixed curriculum. You and your mentor choose the topics, from study habits to the job search. See our workshops for examples.
What happens after I sign up?
We'll email you to arrange a time and ask a few follow-up questions about what you need. You can meet your mentor in person or online, whichever you prefer. From there, you set the pace.
Can I join if I'm under 18?
Write to us through Contact and we'll explain the steps. We want to make sure it is set up properly for you.
